Russia Supplies Two Divisions of S-300 Missile Systems to Tajikistan

AKIPRESS.COM – As part of creation of a common air defense system of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Russia has supplied two divisions of S-300 surface-to-air missile systems to Tajikistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“As for Tajikistan (…), we have already supplied Tajikistan with two divisions of our S-300 air defense systems. These are eight launchers. In general, we are ready to continue and complete this work. But I remind you that the government must issue a corresponding order by the end of the year,” Putin said at a meeting with the Cabinet of Ministers.

Putin also said that security issues, including creation of the CSTO air defense system, were discussed during negotiations with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on November 21 during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to Moscow.

The S-300 surface-to-air missile system is designed for defense against massive attacks by modern and advanced aircraft, strategic cruise missiles, tactical and operational-tactical ballistic missiles and other air weapons.

The system is equipped with a 40N6 missile with a range of up to 380 kilometers. The missile is capable of destroying stealth aircraft at long distances, as well as low-flying (at an altitude of up to five meters) aircraft at distances beyond the horizon.

The average cost of the S-300 missile system is $160 million.
