Emomali Rahmon Expressed Condolences to the Head of Georgia: People Died There During the Disaster


President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon sent a telegram of condolences to the head of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili in connection with the death of people as a result of a landslide, the press service of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

In particular, the telegram says that the news of human casualties and a large number of victims as a result of a landslide in the Shovi resort of Georgia greatly saddened the president of Tajikistan.

“In connection with the tragic consequences of this natural disaster, I express to you, the relatives and friends of the victims, to all the friendly people of Georgia, our condolences and words of support. I wish a full recovery to all the victims,” the Tajik leader wrote to his Georgian counterpart.

The landslide descended on the mountainous village of Shovi in the evening of August 3. The earth covered the courtyard of a nearby hotel and several tourist cottages. Hundreds of people were evacuated.

The death toll has risen to 17.
A search operation continues in the gorge, which turned out to be filled up, Georgian media report that up to 20 people remain missing.
