A Meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Was Held


BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 20 A trilateral summit of the presidents of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan has been held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.

As Trend reports on Monday with reference to TurkicWorld, the summit held for the first time was assessed as a new page in traditional friendship, good neighborliness and intergovernmental relations, and also became a solid foundation for the further development of multilateral relations.

As a result of the meeting, a joint declaration was adopted. After the summit, a press conference was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the participation of the foreign ministers of the three countries.

Speaking at the conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov noted that the summit is of great importance in terms of further strengthening cooperation and friendship between the three countries.

“The main issues on the agenda of the summit were the use of the water resources of the Amu Darya River, the development and intensification of cooperation in the energy sector, the strengthening of cooperation in the transport sector, the expansion of logistics and transport operations,” Meredov said.

Emphasizing that the main problems are the preservation of all the special climatic and geographical features of the region and the rational use of water resources, Meredov noted that in this context, mutually beneficial cooperation is successfully carried out between the countries.

“Turkmenistan has large reserves of natural gas. Diversification of export gas supplies, including maintaining an energy balance, taking into account the interests of transit producers and consumers, are the main principles for us,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan added.

Meredov stressed that the sphere of transport and logistics is one of the priority areas of cooperation between the three countries, noting that the summit discussed in detail steps to create a transport corridor Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan, fix prices in this area and improve the efficiency of the transport corridor.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin, in turn, touched upon trade and economic ties between the three countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov stressed that the results of the summit would make a great contribution to the development of regional cooperation. Noting the high level of preparations for the summit held for the first time, Saidov noted that, in particular, online meetings were held at the level of foreign ministers, as well as many meetings were organized at the level of experts from the three countries.

Recall that on August 4, a trilateral summit was held in Ashgabat with the participation of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Opening the summit, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the first meeting of the heads of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in a trilateral format is a significant and deeply natural event that corresponds to the logic of cooperation and reflects its consistent nature.

The President of Turkmenistan noted that close joint work, coordination of priorities, coordination of development plans are in demand over time, meet the fundamental interests of the peoples of the three countries, the capabilities and needs of national economies. He also emphasized that, building their relations on modern principles, the parties rely on a common civilizational foundation, use centuries-old positive experience, thereby ensuring historical continuity in the current geopolitical and economic conditions.
