The issue of including the Tigrov Balka State Nature Reserve in the UNESCO World Heritage Register will be discussed at the World Heritage session, which will be held from September 10 to 25, 2023 in Saudi Arabia, reports the press service of the Committee for Environmental Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan.
It should be noted that environmental protection issues are under constant attention of the state and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan began preparing the submission of the Tigrov Balka State Nature Reserve for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Register back in 2021.
In this regard, a special working group was created from among the employees and specialists of the Committee and researchers of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and national experts in the field of specially protected natural areas.
The nomination of the Tigrovaya Balka Nature Reserve was submitted by the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to the National Commission of Tajikistan for UNESCO, and then by the National Commission it was submitted to the intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.
According to a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO reviewed the nomination of the Tigrovaya Balka State Nature Reserve and assessed it as technically fully compliant with UNESCO requirements.
In this regard, the Committee for Environmental Protection, at the request of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, prepared additional materials for the nomination of the Tigrovaya Balka State Nature Reserve, and in a timely manner provided it diplomatically to the UNESCO World Heritage Center in Paris.
The issue of including the nomination of the Tigrovaya Balka State Nature Reserve into the UNESCO World Heritage Register will be considered at a large World Heritage session, which will be held from September 10 to 25, 2023 in Saudi Arabia.
