The Mayor of Dushanbe reported to the government on the work done in 2023


In Dushanbe, the construction of 13 schools with a capacity for 28,000 students and 55 kindergartens for 10,000 children is underway, said the mayor of the city, Rustam Emomali, during a government meeting in Tajikistan on January 24, chaired by President Emomali Rahmon.

Improving conditions in educational institutions, enhancing the quality of education, the level of students’ knowledge, and professional teacher training were highlighted by the mayor as the immediate focus of the capital’s leadership, according to the press service of the Tajik state.

Rustam Emomali announced plans to put 5 educational institutions with a capacity of 6,400 students into operation in a single shift in 2024.

He reported that in 2023, 6 educational institutions with 10,300 seats and 3 preschool facilities with over 410 seats were constructed and put into operation. Over the past 7 years, he stated, 42 educational institutions with 70,000 seats and 22 preschool institutions for more than 3,000 children have been created.

The mayor also noted that in 2023, over 41,000 new jobs were created, and in the past two years, more than 83,000 jobs were generated. More than 6,000 women secured permanent employment last year, with over 3,000 undergoing professional training, emphasized the city mayor.

The development of the regional trade complex was supported by an increase in industrial production by 121%, trade by 112%, paid services by 120%, financing of basic capital by 107%, freight transportation by 116%, and passenger transportation by 105%, according to Rustam Emomali.

He stated that within the framework of the accelerated industrialization strategy, the construction of industrial enterprises has been intensified, producing goods worth 4.2 billion somoni during the reporting period.

Construction accounted for 12% of the city’s GDP, providing permanent employment for more than 5,200 residents and temporary employment for 16,000. In 2023, over 550,000 square meters of housing were commissioned, and in the last 7 years, 2.7 million square meters, which is 2.1 million square meters more than seven years ago, the mayor said.

Construction continues on more than 407 objects and buildings of various purposes as part of the city’s General Plan.
