On September 25, 2023, the Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Kholikzoda Khokim Khikmatullo, met with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by the Executive Director of the EBRD Department for Work with Financial Institutions, Francis Malizh, reports the press department of the NBT of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in the country’s financial sector and banking system, and the expansion of further mutually beneficial cooperation.
The Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Khokim Kholikzoda, highly appreciated the EBRD’s contribution to the recovery of the banking sector, including improving the level of corporate governance in the country’s banking sector, developing the money market and capital markets, improving monetary policy, as well as improving the skills of the country’s banking personnel. It was noted that the EBRD actively cooperates with the country’s banking sector in organizing training events for participants in the financial market of Tajikistan, which is important in ensuring economic progress in the country.
The parties exchanged views on the launch of the second phase of financing the green economy, the risks of climate change, supporting opportunities for sustainable development of the insurance market in the Republic of Tajikistan, investing in credit financial institutions, the interest and readiness of the National Bank of Tajikistan to continue and expand cooperation with the EBRD.
Francis Malige noted with satisfaction that the banking system of the Republic of Tajikistan has achieved impressive results. Recalling the long-term mutually beneficial cooperation of the parties, Francis Malige emphasized that, using all opportunities, the EBRD will continue to provide technical assistance to implement reforms aimed at developing the insurance sector and the payment system, in particular non-cash payments and digital financial services, the relevance of which has increased even more since signing the decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan “On measures to expand non-cash payments.”
