The Development of the Organization Was Discussed at the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Center in Tajikistan


Dushanbe, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) — On Wednesday in Dushanbe, at the Center for Friendship and Cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tajikistan, a round table was held on the topic “Priorities of the Chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the SCO: increasing the global role of the organization, strengthening friendship and cooperation in space SCO”.

The event was organized by the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.

SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming (via video link) and Rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Abdukhalil Gafurzoda addressed the event participants with a welcoming speech.

The participants were presented with a presentation by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Tajikistan Valikhan Turekhanov on the priorities of the Kazakh chairmanship and the calendar of events for 2023-2024. The Ambassador informed that in the coming period, with the joint efforts of the SCO member states, it is planned to develop and adopt such key documents as the SCO Development Strategy until 2035, the Action Plan for the implementation of the SCO Economic Development Strategy for the period until 2030, and the SCO Anti-Drug Strategy for 2024- 2029, Strategy for the Development of Energy Cooperation of the SCO Member States until 2030 and the SCO Initiative “On World Unity for a Just Peace and Harmony”.

The approaches of the Republic of Tajikistan regarding the SCO agenda during the Kazakh chairmanship were presented during the speeches of the acting. National Coordinator of the Republic of Tajikistan for SCO Affairs Akhmad Saidmurodzoda and Head of the SCO Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Rakhshon Sultoni.

Deputy Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Sakuov presented an expert and scientific view on the prospects for the development of the SCO in 2023-2024.

During the round table with the participation of ambassadors of the SCO member states accredited in Tajikistan, observer states to the SCO and SCO dialogue partner states, experts and political scientists, a thorough exchange of views took place on the state and prospects for the development of the SCO during the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Summing up the event, Professor of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the SCO Center for Friendship and Cooperation in Tajikistan Rashid Alimov noted that thanks to the joint efforts of the leaders of the member states, the SCO, expanded to nine countries, is entering a new orbit of its development. “During the period of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship, we will have interesting, meaningful and useful joint work for strengthening multilateral partnerships,” emphasized R. Alimov. He expressed his conviction that in the coming year, Kazakhstan, with the support of Tajikistan and other member states, will raise the bar for its chairmanship in the SCO even higher, ensuring the organization reaches a new level of practical cooperation.

As part of the round table, in the foyer of the main building of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the exhibition “Kazakhstan and the SCO: stages of a long journey” was launched.
