Tajikistan Intends to Join the Russian Agroexpress Project

This can speed up delivery times for perishable products and reduce the risks of factors affecting the quality of goods

Tajikistan is considering the possibility of connecting to the specialized service of the Russian Federation “Agroexpress”. This is stated in the road map for 2023-2025, which was signed by the Ministers of Transport of Russia and Tajikistan Vitaly Savelyev and Azim Ibrokhim in Moscow, the press center of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic reported. The department noted that this can speed up delivery times for perishable products and reduce the risks of factors affecting the quality of goods.

Let us remind you that the Agroexpress project is a specialized service for organizing expedited container transportation by rail, which is implemented by Russian Railways OJSC and the Russian Export Center. The service allows you to deliver agricultural goods to Turkey, CIS countries and China. Since 2021, the project has been implemented in the Russia-Uzbekistan direction.

Tajikistan’s participation in the Agroexpress project will simplify the supply of perishable products to the Russian Federation. It accounts for more than 60% of imports of agricultural products from Tajikistan to our country. This is primarily fruit and vegetable products – about 45%. In particular, from fruits we mainly import citrus fruits (8% of total imports of agricultural products from this country), bananas (7%), apples, pears and quinces (4%), and from vegetables – potatoes (3%), tomatoes (2%), carrots (1%). We can also receive drinks and dairy products from Tajikistan faster. And flour, sunflower oil, and flour confectionery products will be delivered faster from Russia to Tajikistan.

As the press service of the Russian government reported, part of the Agroexpress project will also be a new agrologistics complex, which Russia and Uzbekistan opened in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan.

As Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk noted, “the scale of the complex allows us to call it a strategic facility that makes a serious contribution to the food security of both countries.” “The complex will provide agricultural market participants with services for sorting, processing, storage, sanitary and customs clearance, preparation for transportation and logistics of fruits and vegetables,” his words are quoted in the message.
