Tajikistan Has Noticeably Reduced the Supply of Its Products to Afghanistan

Despite this, the southern neighbor remains among the top six markets for Tajik products.

Bilateral Tajik-Afghan trade turnover for seven months of this year amounted to about $56.5 million, which is 17.9% less than in the same period in 2022, reports the statistical agency of the Republic of Tajikistan.

In January-July last year, the total trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $68.6 million.

More than 98% of the Tajik-Afghan turnover, as last year, comes from the supply of Tajik products to Afghanistan.

At the same time, Tajikistan reduced the supply of goods and products to Afghanistan this year compared to the previous year by 16.5% – from $66.7 million to $55.7 million.

Despite this, Afghanistan remains among the main markets for Tajik products, second only to Kazakhstan, China, Turkey, Russia and Uzbekistan.

Afghanistan’s share in Tajikistan’s total exports in the seven months of this year increased to 7.3% from 4.9% in the same period in 2022.

This is explained by a drop in Tajikistan’s total exports in January-July this year compared to the corresponding period of the previous year: from almost $1.4 billion to $767 million

The main product supplied by Tajikistan to Afghanistan remains electricity. Also, some construction materials, primarily cement, and food products in relatively smaller volumes are supplied to the neighboring country.
