Russia and Tajikistan Holding Military Drill Near Border With Afghanistan


AKIPRESS.COM – The armed forces of Russia and Tajikistan are holding the joint drill in Khatlon region, 20 km away from the border with Afghanistan, the Russian Central Military District reported.

The drills will last until April 7 at the Kharbmaidon training ground.

More than 300 Russian troops from the 201st military based stationed in Tajikistan are participating in the drill, including servicemen of mountain, motorized rifle, tank, artillery units, units of radiation, chemical and biological protection and mobile electronic warfare groups.

During the stages of practical actions, the military will work out preparation and conduct of a joint operation to eliminate illegal armed groups in mountainous areas, as well as command and control of units of joint forces in blocking and destroying militants.

The Russian 201st base is the the country’s biggest military base outside Russia. It is stationed in Dushanbe and Bokhtar.
