On November 27, 2023, as part of the visit of the official delegation of the Sverdlovsk region led by Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev to the city of Dushanbe, representatives of the Ural State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia (USMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia) visited two of the largest universities in this country: Tajik National University and Tajik State Medical University named after Abuali Ibni Sino.
The working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan was a continuation of the dialogue at the highest level. On November 21-22, 2023, negotiations took place in Moscow between the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, during which Vladimir Putin noted that in 2024 the quota for studying Tajik students in Russian universities, which is currently one of the largest for the CIS countries, will be increased to a thousand places.
Tajik National University (TNU) is among the top five universities in the region according to experts from the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR-EUR)-2023. In addition, TNU was awarded the “Star of Quality” award. During the meeting, the rector of USMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia Olga Kovtun and the rector of TNU Kobildzhon Khushvakhtzoda discussed the possibility of implementing online educational programs in the 3+3 format in the specialties of general medicine, pediatrics, and medical and preventive care. Based on the results of mastering educational programs, three years of which students will study at TNU, and then three years at the USMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia, students will receive two diplomas – from the Ural State Medical University and the Tajik National University.
“During the meeting, agreements were reached on the implementation of virtual mobility programs for teachers of the USMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia, as well as the conduct of joint research work in 2024,” noted the rector of the USMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Olga Kovtun.
During the visit to the Republic of Tajikistan, USMU Rector Olga Kovtun and Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Activities Mikhail Flyagin also discussed promising areas of cooperation with the leadership of the Abuali Ibni Sino Tajik State Medical University (TSMU). Rector of TSMU Mahmadshoh Gulzoda warmly supported the initiative of TSMU to implement double degree programs.
During the meeting, the rectors of the two universities identified areas of cooperation in the field of scientific research in the priority areas of the Strategic Project of the USMU development program “Biomedical Technologies and New Materials”. The parties decided to create “mirror” youth scientific laboratories that will engage in joint research. In the near future, the vice-rectors for research activities of the Ural and Tajik universities will begin to work out these agreements.
Let us remind you that within the framework of the strategic academic leadership program “Priority-2030”, the Ural State Medical University, together with industrial partners, carries out scientific research in the following areas: medical equipment for anesthesiology and resuscitation and neonatology; tissue replacement and bioresorbable implants for traumatology, dentistry and reconstructive surgery; promising molecules and drugs.
In the field of educational activities of the two universities, the first step towards strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation will be cross-lectures by leading teachers in the format of virtual mobility. At the end of the meeting, the rector of TSMU Mahmadshoh Gulzoda introduced representatives of the USMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia to the activities of the updated simulation center of the university, and also expressed hope for the development of partnerships not only at the level of teachers and scientists of the two universities, but also among students and trainees.
Rector of USMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia Olga Kovtun invited the TSMU team to take part in the annual winter school on pediatric surgery “Zverev Readings”, which in early December 2023 will gather the most talented pediatric surgeons of Russia and neighboring countries in the Urals for the eighth time.
