Moldova Airport Shooter Wanted in Tajikistan for Kidnapping

The citizen of Tajikistan, Rustam Ashurov, who opened fire at the airport in Moldova, was one of the members of the criminal group that kidnapped the First Deputy Chairman of Orienbank, Shuhrat Ismatulloev, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Tajikistan reports.

The kidnapping of Ismatulloev took place on June 23 this year.

“On the same day, a criminal case was initiated on this matter and an operational-investigative group was created to solve the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The investigation established that one of the participants in an organized criminal group is Ashurov Rustam Karimovich, a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan, born on March 25, 1980, resident of the city of Dushanbe, who, after committing the crime, fled to the Republic of Moldova through the Republic of Turkey with the aim of further hiding in the countries of the European Union.

During his attempted detention while crossing the state border of the Republic of Moldova, he grabbed a pistol from one of the law enforcement officers of the Chisinau airport, shot two people and took several others hostage.

As a result of the anti-terrorist operation Ashurov R. K. was wounded and arrested.

The investigation into this criminal case is ongoing,” the Prosecutor General’s Office of Tajikistan said in a statement.
