Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlan Shakiev, in connection with the plans of the country’s leadership to develop the state language, urged to urgently rename all the names of the districts of the capital of the republic into the Kyrgyz language.
He stated this on Friday in Bishkek during a speech at the nationwide kurultai (congress) of the country, TASS reports.
“It is urgent to rename all the districts of Bishkek, some settlements in Kyrgyzstan still bear names in other languages,” he said.
According to him, plans for the development of the state language in Kyrgyzstan have not yet been fully implemented.
Earlier, a similar initiative was also made by several other deputies of the Kyrgyz parliament, who proposed to assign Kyrgyz names to the entire district of the capital of the republic. Currently, Bishkek includes Leninsky, Pervomaisky, Oktyabrsky and Sverdlovsky districts.
