AKIPRESS.COM – $14 million was returned to the state budget of Kazakhstan. The sum was withdrawn to the UAE by nephew of the country’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kairat Satybaldy, the Anti-Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan reported.
The Agency said that investigations are ongoing against entrepreneur Kairat Satybaldy and other persons. The Agency is taking measures to return assets illegally withdrawn from the country, including money and other property obtained by criminal means.
“These funds ($14 million) were turned into state revenue and will be used for social purposes,” the Agency said.
The agency recalled that the state has returned assets worth more than 464 billion tenge ($1 billion 38 million) since the beginning of the criminal prosecution of Satybaldy and persons associated with him.
“These assets include administrative buildings, jewelry, luxury cars, cash, shares and stakes in companies, as well as railway tracks,” the press service said. Work on the return of illegally withdrawn assets is ongoing.
The capital’s court sentenced Kairat Satybaldy to six years in prison on September 26, 2022, for causing property damage through fraud, as well as embezzlement of other people’s property.
